Everton interested in signing Barcelona defender Thomas Vermaelen

Despite still not making his first team debut for Barcelona, Thomas Vermaelen has several clubs keen on signing him next season.

According to 'The Mirror', Roberto Martinez is keen to take the Belgian defender to Everton.

The English club, it seems, are closely monitoring several Barça players, including Sergi Roberto, and they would be interested in Vermaelen, even though he's not played one minute of football due to injuries.

Vermaelen knows the Premier League well, though, having spent a large part of his career with Arsenal.

Martinez, who is from Catalonia, is familiar with Barça and hopes that will help when it comes to doing business with the club. He previously took Gerard Deulofeu on loan.

And it is most likely, if at all, that Vermaelen's move to Liverpool would be on loan.

Given the time he's spent on the sidelines, Barça may be keen to let him get some action elsewhere as he recovers his fitness.
