Barcelona must make decision on defender Yerry Mina soon

Palmeiras feel they will struggle to hold on to him in January and Barça may have to decide if they want him

The emergence of Yerry Mina at Palmeiras will accelerate his move to Europe. The Colombian central defender, who Barcelona have tied down for nine million euros, is taking huge steps forward and has arguably been the best player in his position in the Brasileirao this season. Barça will have to take a decision soon.

When in May of this year Mina joined Palmeiras from Santa Fe, Barça ensured they had an option to buy the defender from July 2017 onwards. The club’s coaches combed the South American market and found the tall Colombian (1m95) and felt he was a medium-term option for the first team. However, his form has seen things speed up.

Recently turned 22, Mina is not only a key player for his club, but also for his national team. He wasn’t at the Olympic Games due to an injury which ruled him out for eight weeks. Since returning, though, he has impressed in Colombia’s World Cup qualifiers and is now a regular for Jose Pekerman’s side.

And Europe’s biggest sides are now following him. As SPORT revealed in October, Milan and Bayern Munich have been in contact with the player’s representatives. Manchester City have also reportedly been watching him. If offers arrive in January, Barcelona will have to decide if they want to take up their option.
