Barça "do not share" the views expressed by Dani Alves

Barcelona have released a statement distancing themselves from comments made by Dani Alves on Friday.

The right-back, in an Instagram post, called the press “fucking rubbish”, complaining that they no longer talk about football, instead choosing to focus on more trivial matters.

“FC Barcelona first team player Dani Alves published a very critical message about the media on Instagram using some very offensive expressions,” Barça’s statement read.

“Regarding those opinions, which the player is allowed to express with total freedom, FC Barcelona feel it is necessary to clarify that they do not share the offensive expressions published.”

Alves’ comments have perhaps been fuelled by the media fall-out from Wednesday night’s Copa del Rey win over Espanyol.

Luis Suarez has since been banned for two cup matches for inciting a brawl in the tunnel, while Gerard Pique is also being investigated for making comments which could provoke violence.

The Brazilian’s post read: “With each day that passes I feel more ashamed to be associated with this sport because of how they use us and how they play with us.

“I thought that each one us went out to defend out colours, our teams; I thought win or lose, I would go home and reflect on the bad things we had done - or to enjoy the good things.

“These days we are objects used by the press for their own benefit, so that the can sell newspapers.

“All the time they are talking less about football, strategies, plays, dribbles for goals, saves, the spectacular…

“‘What fucking rubbish you are’ #morefootballlessrubbish #goodcrazy.”
