Simao gave the Barcelona star the award to see 'justice' after he thought Iniesta should have won it

Simao Sabrosa gave Andres Iniesta a replica Ballon d’Or on the programme Sport TV + in Portugal, Amigos de Simao. The former Portuguese footballer and Iniesta spoke about the year Barcelona filled the podium with Xavi, Messi and Iniesta in 2010.

It was a year Iniesta was favourite to win the award but in the end it went to Messi. Guardiola announced it during the gala. Simao made it clear on his programme that Iniesta would have been his candidate. And after handing Iniesta his own ‘Ballon d’Or’ he said: “I decided to make justice”.

“Now I have it,” joked Iniesta with a smile. He said he liked the gala with Xavi and Messi. “It was something unrepeatable which I don’t think we’ll see again,” he said.

During the interview Iniesta highlighted the progress of Andre Gomes. “It’s necessary to create the path and perfect climate for young players who when they come from elsewhere they feel good and are capable of evolving. This is what we try to do at FC Barcelona.”
