Alex Song returns to Barcelona to thrash out West Ham transfer

Barcelona midfielder Alex Song travelled to the Catalan city on Monday with the objective of speaking to the club and sorting out his future. Now that a new president has been elected, the Cameroon international hopes to facilitate an exit from the club.

Song, who spent last season on loan with West Ham United in the Premier League, wants to leave the club for free to continue playing for the English side, who are keen to keep him on board after an impressive season.

West Ham's new manager, the Croatian Salven Bilic, has already suggested the club are close to tying up a deal to keep Song at Upton Park. "Even though I'm not going to comment on players that belong to other teams, he is close to returning," Bilic said in a press conference.

"He played here last season and, despite the fact he's got an injury, I won't deny he was a great player for us last year. I would like to have him stay with us," the West Ham boss added.

The 27-year-old midfielder posted a video on Instagram of his flight to Barcelona, which revealed he was on the plane with former Barça and Arsenal player Thierry Henry.
