Aleix Vidal Case: The truth about why Luis Enrique is 'punishing' him

The coach has lost confidence in his player in strictly sporting terms

Luis Enrique has relegated Aleix Vidal to a secondary role for strictly sporting reasons. Despite the talk the two had at the end of last season, which was recognised by Vidal himself, there has not been any major incident between the manager and the player.

There have been no arguments, no clashes and no situations which could have led to disciplinary measures being applied. The coach is not giving Vidal minutes because he's not been satisifed with his performances.

Luis Enrique feels that Vidal's has shown a lack of judgement certain moments in attack and that it is ending up having a cost in defence. The Asturian coach has asked repeatetedly for him to take more responsibility, while also paying attention to what's going on behind him.

Both the coach and his assistants have lectured Vidal several times on what they consider tactical errors which have penalised the team. However, Luis Enrique feels that the full-back has not corrected his errors and continues to make the same mistakes.

The Asturian insists on the necessity to maintain a high level of concentration and to apply intelligence to the development of the team's play to avoid defensive lapses. They are concepts which Aleix Vidal has not picked up; not to the level of Luis Enrique's demands. Despite all that, he could have another chance this Saturday against Deportivo La Coruna
