Adriano, on the verge of extending his Barcelona contract

Adriano, on the verge of extending his Barcelona contract

Barcelona are waiting for news from Adriano Correia. The player should respond before March 15 if he wants to activate the option to add another year on his contract, to continue until June 2017, or to leave on a free transfer this summer. Although he has not yet opted, his people think he should continue at the club for another year.

Technical secretary Robert Fernandez confirmed the existence of the clause to Catalunya Radio in October. "Adriano has a year more, we will wait until March 15 to see what he decides," said Robert.

Adriano is thinking hard about it. His place in the side is small, but his grain of sand complements the squad.

The full-back has taken part in 18 games this season, 1046 minutes, in which he scored one goal. He recently played in the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey against Valencia and played the full 90 at El Molinon against Sporting Gijon.

The player is conscious of his role and takes it. He is a member of the best team of the world and to win titles is something a 31-year-old footballer knows how to appreciate.

Adriano is happy in the city and the Barcelona dessing room. There's a group of Brazilians with contageous happiness, including Dani Alves, Neymar and Rafinha. Adriano gets on well with them, but the others too. He helps make the group and for that reason the technical secretary and Luis Enrique would be happy for him to stay.

Economically, Adriano gets a salary that other offers would surpass. But, in the case of another treble, it would end up being around the same level. Adriano has studied his options and will soon make his decision - to stay at the club.

Barcelona don't have another left-back either, apart from Jordi Alna, after Grimaldo left for Benfica.
