Uruguay Players' Association to ask for Luis Suarez's ban to be lifted for Copa America

The Mutual de Futbolistas (Uruguayan Players' Association) will ask for Luis Suarez to be allowed to play in this summer's Copa America in light of the corruption charges against FIFA.

They argue that his suspension for biting Giorgio Chiellini at last year's World Cup in Brazil should be lifted because of the shame that has been brought on world football's governing body.

"If Luis Suarez is in agreement," they said, "we will ask for the end of the suspension, due to [the player] having been suspended by an organisation suspected of corruption."

Their argument is based on the fact that several of those who sanctioned the Barcelona striker are involved in the corruption scandal which was revealed on Wednesday.

Suarez's ban impedes him in playing in Chile this summer, with FIFA handing him a nine-game ban last summer.

Uruguay are due to play in Group B, alongside Argentina, Paraguay and Jamaica.
