Spain will cross paths with Italy in 2018 World Cup qualifying

The Spanish national team will go up against Italy in Group G in the qualifying stages for 2018's World Cup in Russia, alongside Albania, Israel, Macedonia and Liechtenstein.

Vicente Del Bosque's side avoided the group that nobody wanted to be part of, with Antonio Conte's national team also appears to also be quite happy with the draw.

However, from the group of six teams, only the side who finishes top with directly qualify, with the second needing to take part in play offs to book their place at Russia's World Cup.

In terms of the rest of Group G, both Spain and Italy should have few problems against teams such as Albania and Liechtenstein, although Israel and Macedonia can be teams who are strong in their own stadiums.

Owing to the importance of television rights, Spain, England, Germany, France, Italy and the Netherlands needed to be inserted into groups with six teams.

The qualifying stages for the 2018 World Cup will begin during the coming month of September and the playoffs will take place in November 2017.

The World Cup in Russia, the first time that an Eastern European country will host the tournament, will be played between the 14th of June and the 15th of July 2018.
