Mascherano: We lacked a bit of luck in my third Copa final

Barcelona central midfielder Javier Mascherano tried to hold back the tears and hurt in his eyes after his team's defeat. Limping due to his right knee, La Albiceleste's best player in the final was very critical: "It is karma. I can't find an explanation. I want to enjoy playing in this shirt but I always suffer." He added: "This isn't a day for making questions, but rather to reflect."

Mascherano has been a leading figure at the last three Copa America. And he cannot find an explanation for why the La Albiceleste have their title drought. "Personally, I can't find a way to describe it. Perhaps it is me. I hope that in the future Argentina can win. I've had my turn. I spoke about it with Carlitos [Tevez]. Three Copa America finals. I lost all three. I can't find an explanation. We were as close in the first as we were in this one, we have been close."

Regarding the lack of his team's luck in the finals, he remembered what happened in the final with Brazil. "That was a tough blow. We were here to put it right. Football is this way. I want to enjoy playing in this shirt, but I always suffer. Generally, we have had a good Copa America. With good moments, and not so much others. We played in a final. We were at our best. The rival plays as well. We arrived at the game in the place that we wanted to be. We miss out on a bit of luck during finals. Is it karma? I don't know."

He also opened the doors to doubt regarding his Albiceleste future: "I am one of the oldest. Many thanks for everything. We were not able to give you [the fans] the joy that you wanted. It is torture... they know how I live through football. Regrettably, we lost and we have to swallow it. It is hugely upsetting. I can't think about the future," he stated.
