Johan's son will leave behind his sporting director role to have a go at coaching

He was interim coach last season for nine games and the results were encouraging

Jordi Cruyff will be the manager of Maccabi Tel Aviv this season. After finishing last season in second place, for the second season in a row, Jordi has decided to leave his role as sporting director and finally have a go at coaching.

The son of Johan Cruyff will be accompanied by Dani Poyatos, who this season was in charge of Real Madrid's Juvenil B team, who won their league by 12 points ahead of Atletico.

After 22 years, when his father was in charge of Barça for the 1995-06 season, a Cruyff will once again officially be a first team coach -- not counting the nine games Jordi managed last season due to necessity.

Cruyff taked over from Lito Vidigal, who had originally replaced him in February after he had filled in temporarily following the dismissal of Shota Arveladze.

So good was his experience in the winter, Jordi began to think about stepping into coaching permanently. Eight wins and a draw from his nine games, as well as excellent critiques in the local media, encouraged him.

By the end of the season he had already taken the decision, which is why he didn't even consider Josep Maria Bartomeu's offer to join the sporting structure at Barcelona.
