FIFA refereeing chief hits back at Spanish criticisms of Video Assistant Refereeing

He reminded them that if it had been in use back at the 2002 World Cup then they would not be complaining

FIFA's refereeing chief has hit back at criticism of the VAR (Video Assistant Referee) system in Spain, reminding them that if it had been in use back at the 2002 World Cup then the outcome of their clash with South Korea would have been very different.

Massimo Busacca said on Cadena COPE: "I'm sure Spain would not have minded waiting 30 seconds or five minutes to have had a play revised during the World Cup in Korea."

"The referees are doing a miraculous job because they've hardly had any time to test it. We accept the criticism but we need time.

"We are at the beginning of it. We are very satisfied because we haven't seen any injustice."
