European champions! Eder extra time winner helps Portugal topple France

France were the favourites to win Euro 2016 on Sunday night when they took on Portugal in Paris on Sunday night, but they were stunned by an extra time winner from Eder.

Didier Deschamps' side were left to question what went wrong, while Fernando Santos' men celebrated the biggest night in the history of Portuguese football..

PORTUGAL 1-0 FRANCE

23.42: Portugal lost their own final in 2004, when as hosts they were beaten by Greece. This is their first major honour.

23.39: Les Bleus had defeated Portugal the last 10 times they’d met and on the big occasions their results, including three semi-final wins against them (Euro 1984, Euro 2000, World Cup 2006). The tide has changed.

23.38: Against the odds, Portugal have beaten favourites and hosts France. Eder's goal wins it and, in truth, France did little to get back into the game in the final 10 minutes. Without Ronaldo for most of the night, Pepe and Rui Patricio were inspirational for the Portuguese.

23.33: PORTUGAL ARE THE CHAMPIONS OF EUROPE.

23.25: Five minutes left for France...

23.19: Seconds after Raphael Guerreiro hits the bar with a lovely free-kick, Portugal lead. Eder cuts inside and scores from 25 yards, beating Lloris low to his right. Incredible scenes. France respond with Martial for Sissoko - they have 10 minutes to find an equaliser.

23.18: GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL PORTUGAL

23.13: We're now just 15 minutes from penalties. Can someone score a winner?

23.09: Lloris with a big save from an Eder header. Portugal won a corner out of nothing, but luckily, for France, it came to nothing in the end, too, thanks to the Tottenham goalkeeper. Before the corner, Pepe had pushed Umtiti to the ground - the Clasico rivalry starts here.

23.03: Here was Ronaldo a few minutes ago...

23.01: Not much to report so far in extra time. Ronaldo's been spotted back out on the sidelines, but no chances yet.

22.52: Final whistle goes and there have been no goals. If France or Portugal can't find one in extra-time, it will be penalties to decide the winner of Euro 2016.

22.50: France almost win it in stoppage time, but they're denied by the woodwork! Gignac beats his man in the area and whips a shot a away, but it bounces back off the post. So close...

22.42: Patricio with another save! This time from Sissoko. STILL goalless. Six minutes of normal time to go.

22.39: We're into the final 10 minutes and it's still goalless. Rui Patricio saved from Giroud, who has since been replaced by Gignac, while Eder has come on for Portugal, Renato Sanches sacrificed.

22.26: Portugal change - Moutinho on for Adrien Silva

22.45: Great cross from Coman, but Griezmann sends his header wide. Perhaps the best chance of the second half.

22.17: Deschamps turns to the bench and it almost has an immediate effect. Coman replaces Payet and the Bayern winger sets up Griezmann, who shoots straight at Rui Patricio.

22.13: France asking most of the questions so far, but Portgual - particularly the impressive Pepe - are standing strong. When will Deschamps turn to his bench?

22.04: Second half is underway...

21.45: The biggest talking point of a first half which ends goalless is that Ronaldo is no longer a part of this final. The Madrid man left the pitch with a knee injury. Griezmann came closest to opening the scoring with a looping header, but we're still waiting for the first goal.

21.36: Not the way Ronaldo wanted to go...

21.34: A save and a booking. Rui Patricio again in action, denying an effort from Moussa Sissoko, who's been very good so far. Portugal defender Cedric Soares then becomes the first player to be booked in the final.

21.26: He tried, but he just could not carry on. Ronaldo goes down to the floor again and is forced off on a stretcher. A very sad way for his Euros to end. Quaresma on in his place.

21.21: Knee bandaged up, Ronaldo is back on. But is he fit? Time will tell.

21.18: Portugal have a big decision to make here. Ronaldo's still struggling from the blow he took to the knee from Payet and they're currently playing with 10 men. It looks like he will have to go off, but they're waiting for now...

21.11: What a save! Rui Patricio has just produced an outstanding stop to keep out a looping Griezmann header. France getting into their stride.

21.09: A frantic start in Paris. Nani and Griezmann have had chances at either end, with neither able to hit the target. Ronaldo has taken a blow to the knee, too, but is OK to continue for now.

21.02: Barça legend Xavi Hernandez handed the trophy over before the match. It's not Spain's for much longer.

21.00: THE EURO 2016 FINAL IS UNDERWAY! Portugal and France are both in their home kits. Red (ish) vs. Blue. Who will come out on top?

20.57: Both teams are out on the pitch and the anthems have been sung - and impressively, too. Now it's time for the football. France. Portugal. The final.

20.52: The stadium is ready in Paris...

20.43: From one Portuguese player to another - Bayern bound midfielder Renato Sanches takes Cristiano Ronaldo's record as the youngest player to play in a Euro final. Can he make an impact?

20.35: It's been 12 years since we had a European Championship final without Spain... that was when Portugal lost to Greece.

20.29: The French have won the tournament on two occasions (1984, 2000), while Portugal lost their only appearance in the final in 2004, when they were beaten at home by Greece.

20.22: A lot of eyes going to be on this man tonight...

20.15: History is on France’s side. Les Bleus have defeated Portugal the last 10 times they’ve met and on the big occasions their results can’t be improved: three semi-final wins against them (Euro 1984, Euro 2000, World Cup 2006).

20.07: One point of interest for Barcelona fans tonight will be France centre-back Samuel Umtiti, who is set to sign for the Catalan side from Lyon once the tournament finishes.

20.03: Portugal team: Patricio; Cedric, Pepe, Fonte, Guerreiro; William, Adrien, Joao Mario, Sanches; Ronaldo, Nani

20.01: France team: Lloris; Sagna, Koscielny, Umtiti, Evra; Pogba, Matuidi; Sissoko, Griezmann, Payet; Giroud
