Carles Puyol could make a return to football with interest building in Qatar and USA

Barcelona legend Carles Puyol could be set to make a shock return to professional football. He retired last season after a long, successful career with Barça and the Spanish national team, but he could now be set for a comeback.

Qatar and the United States of America (MLS) are both possible destinations for the former central defender.

A knee injury forced Puyol to retire from football, but he has been training recently and is hopeful the break he has been on has helped heal the injury.

Rumours are circulating that Puyol, 36, has an offer from Colorado Rapids on the table to go an play in MLS. However, it's thought he also has offers from clubs in Qatar, although the Catalan would prefer a move to America.

Puyol, who began the season working with Andoni Zubizarreta at Barça, had previously said he would like to play until he was 40.

Barça's former captain played his last match on March 3. 2014 against Almeria at Camp Nou in La Liga. On that occasion, he was on the score sheet in a Barcelona win. Will we see him back on the pitch soon?
