Benzema's Bleus blow away sorry Swiss

Rik Sharma

This was a rampage.

Even though Switzerland notched two late goals, both of high quality, France were considerably the better team.

Over the course of their first two fixtures, Didier Deschamps' side have shown enough that it's easy to see them fighting for the trophy, instead of just fighting among themselves.

Four years ago to the day, in South Africa, there was a bust-up in the France team.

But they were unified as they took Switzerland to pieces, with Olivier Giroud, Blaise Matuidi, Mathieu Valbuena, Karim Benzema and Moussa Sissoko all notching.

Switzerland lost Steve von Bergen early on, the defender catching Giroud's boot in the face.

On came Philippe Senderos - and he had a nightmare of a match alongside former Arsenal team-mate Johan Djourou

France scored early on, with Giroud powering home a header from a corner, that Diego Benaglio should have done better in keeping out.

Benaglio could have done better too, with the second.

Benzema played in the rampaging Matuidi and he fired home with ease

The striker, man of the match for France, missed a penalty, with Yohan Cabaye smashing the rebound off the bar despite an open goal.

But the third soon came, with Mathieu Valbuena tucking home after a good France move.

Benzema got his goal after the break, blasting home first time after a magnificent sliced pass from Paul Pogba.

The Real Madrid star turned creator for the fifth, playing in Moussa Sissoko, who tucked home coolly.

Game over, bar a long range free-kick goal for Blerim Dzemaili, then a brilliantly taken volley by Granit Xhaka.

The referee blew for full time, just as Benzema fired home from the edge of the box.

His second goal didn't count, but France didn't care as they warmed up for greater challenges ahead.
