Wawrinka stuns Djokovic to deny the Serbian the only Grand Slam he's missing

Stanislas Wawrinka stunned Novak Djokovic on Sunday to leave the Serbian still without the French Open crown.

The world number one has won each of the three other Grand Slams and had hoped, following victories over Rafa Nadal and Andy Murray, he was about to add Roland Garros to that haul.

However, despite winning the first set, Djokovic was beaten by a sizzling performance from Wawrinka 4-6 6-4 6-3 6-4.

It brought Djokovic's 28-match winning streak to an end and denied him the opportunity to become the eighth man to complete the set of all four major titles.

"There are things that are more important in life than victories and that is character and respect -- Stan you are a great champion with big heart," the ever-noble Djokovic said in defeat.

Wawrinka said: "It was an incredible atmosphere on court and I felt emotion like I never have before."

Next up is Wimbledon in a few weeks.
