Lewis Hamilton wins British Grand Prix to extend his lead over Nico Rosberg

Lewis Hamilton strengthened his lead at the top of the Formula 1 World Championship with an impeccable performance in front of his home support at the British circuit Silversone. 

The Mercedes driver's latest Grand Prix win moves him 17 points ahead of his teammate Nico Rosberg, who finished second in Sunday's race. Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari) completed the podium ahead of Felipe Massa and Valtteri Bottas (both Williams). 

Hamilton began in pole position, followed by Rosberg, but both were overtaken by Massa, who moved into first, while Bottas was battling with Hamilton for second place before the early introduction of the safety car.

With the help of a safety car and the rain, though, and in a pulsating race, the two Mercedes fought back, capping a frustrating afternoon for Massa, who eventually claimed a fourth place finish.
