Ferrer loses to Murray in Vienna and suffers World Tour Finals setback

David Ferrer's hopes of a spot at the World Tour Finals suffered a blow as he was beaten by Andy Murray in the Vienna Open final.

The Spaniard won the first set, but eventually fell to the Britain 5-7 6-2 7-5.

Murray now jumps ahead of Ferrer into eighth spot in the race to be involved in the ATP's main event at the O2 Arena in London - only eight players qualify.

With Marin Cilic guaranteed a place due to his win at the US Open, Murray and Ferrer are left battling it out with Kei Nishikori, Tomas Berdych, Milos Raonic and Grigor Dimitrov for the final three spots.

"It's the same for both of us," Murray said about his and Ferrer's situation after his win in Austria.

"Ferrer won in Shanghai last week, I won here. Whoever qualifies for the finals will deserve it.

"It's the best players over the 12 months. We'll see over the next weeks, but it's going to be very close."
