Andy Murray and Rafa Nadal through to the quarter-finals in Australia

Andy Murray will face home favourite Nick Kyrgios in the quarter-finals of the Australian Open after seeing off the challenge of Grigor Dmitrov.

The Briton lost a second set tie break to the Bulgarian but then clinched the next two sets in Melbourne to seal a 6-4 6-7 (5-7) 6-3 7-5 victory in three hours and 32 minutes.

The 19-year-old Kyrgios, meanwhile, won an exhaustive five-set encounter against Andreas Seppi, who had knocked out Roger Federer in the prvious round.

There is no doubt who the partisan crowd will be backing when Murray takes on the Australian in the next round.

"I thought I played well," Murray said after the win.

"I thought Grigor started the match extremely well. He came out very aggressively; he was very explosive.

"But it's tough to keep that sort of level of intensity up. And then once I got myself into the match, I felt like I was able to dictate a lot of the points.

"I thought tactically I played a good match."

Elsewhere, Rafael Nadal will meet Tomas Berdych in the last eight after the two came through their matches against Kevin Anderson and Bernard Tomic respectively.

Top seed Novak Djokovic is still in the tournament, although he is yet to play his round-of 16 match.
