Zidane defends Cristiano Ronaldo against Bernabeu boo boys

The Madrid boss is confident his forward will get back to scoring ways in the near future

Zinedine Zidane says Cristiano Ronaldo is not worried about being jeered by the Real Madrid fans and backed the Portuguese forward to get back to goal scoring ways soon.

Ronaldo has scored four goals in nine games this season for his club -- his worst start to a season since he joined from Manchester United in 2009 -- and has netted just once in his last four appearances.

He wasn’t on target against Athletic Club at the weekend and missed a number of chances, leading to the home fans giving him some stick for his recent form.

“Cristiano isn’t worried about the whistles,” Zidane said on Tuesday.

“Do I understand [the whistling]? Yes and no. I don’t understand it, but at the same time it happened to me, too, so I do.

“The Bernabeu is special, they demand a lot from you… and Cristiano knows that, he is used to it and he’s not concerned. It’s not anything important.”

The French coach is certain Ronaldo will get back to his normal goal scoring ways soon.

He added: “I prefer him to always score two or three goals in each game, but I’m not worried because I know what will happen.

“He’s not scoring his chances at the moment, but he will do, soon he will score again.”
