"The president has a right to say what he thinks", Zidane said

The Real Madrid manager also said that Bale and the rest of the squad would have to get used to being whistled

Zinedine Zidane has seconded the words of the Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez, who said that the “refereeing level frankly can be improved”. The Madrid president made the comments on the programme El Larguero on Cadena Ser.

When Zidane was asked about the comments, he said “What the president said is that everyone can always improve. And referees are the same. I don’t get involved with them. I can make mistakes as a manager. Everyone has an opinion and the president has a right to say what he thinks. I agree that things can improve”.

Zidane added that he was not singling out referees “Everyone can improve what they do, it’s their job. If you are a player and you train every day, you can improve. Everyone is the same with their job. You can referee but they will make mistakes and that’s why I don’t talk about them, because I understand it’s a difficult job but, like everyone, they can improve,” he said.

Zidane was also happy that all his internationals had come back from the international break fit and defended Gareth Bale against the whistles of the Bernabéu. “At Real Madrid it’s always been like that and it will continue to be like that. Of course, I would prefer that they didn’t whistle us, but that’s how it is and you have to accept it.”

Zidane also said he agreed with the Premier League’s decision to close the transfer window before the league starts “because you shouldn’t change squads with the competition underway”.
