The Real Madrid centre-back will undergo tests on Friday to determine the extent of the knock

Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane will undergo tests on Friday to find out the extent of the injury he picked up in the loss to Valencia at Mestalla on Wednesday.

The tests will determing whether the muscle injury he suffered is a pull or whether it's just a bruising. Early indications are that he could be out for three weeks.

Madrid's medical team will not do the tests on Thursday, sources at the club have confirmed, as they would prefer to wait 24 hours to give the injury a chance to settle.

However, he is certainly out of the game against Villarreal this Sunday.

Varana had to be taken off against Valencia, although it wasn't clear he was injured at the time. After making several errors, he was taken off for Nacho Fernandez.

Zinedine Zidane revealed after the game it was an injury which had led to the substitution, though.
