The Madrid captain re-opened the debate about penalties

However, he admitted Madrid should have taken their chances

Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos has tried to divert the attention to Barcelona and referees following his side's bad start to the season.

Madrid were beaten 1-0 at home to Real Betis on Wednesday and are seven points behind Barça and have not yet won a game in the league at the Bernabeu this season.

Ramos, who admitted Madrid have to be self-critical, also pointed out the problems Madrid are having getting penalties in comparison to Barcelona.

"The more we speak about the referees the worse it is. You have to have respect for the officials, they're doing their best. I'd rather not give it importance, but it doesn't surprise me that they don't give us penalties, while Barça do get them. It's always harder to give a penalty to Madrid than to another team, but if we'd scored three goals we wouldn't be lamenting that," Ramos siad after the Betis game.

The Spain defender added: "We've had a frustrating start [to the season], one which is worrying. We've played against opponents who normally leave the Bernabeu with another kind of result, but now we need to move on, self-evaluate and think about the upcoming fixtures.

"We are the same players who were winning titles a month-and-a-half ago."
