Real Madrid's 'Plan B' better than the BBC as they hammer Depor

Isco, James and Morata were all on target in a comprehensive win

Madrid often play better when Zidane picks his supposed back-up players

Real Madrid eased to a 6-2 win at Deportivo La Coruna to move back level on points with Barcelona at the top of La Liga.

Zinedine Zidane’s side still have a game in hand on Barca, but are currently second — both sides have 78 points — due to their inferior head to head record.

Despite making nine changes from the Clasico defeat, this win was never in doubt.

In fact, Madrid’s supposed back-up players, when given a chance, often do better than those who start ahead of them in the big games.

That was the case here, with James Rodriguez, Isco, Marco Asensio and Alvaro Morata once again on form.

Morata opened the scoring in the first minute and James doubled Madrid’s lead just 13 minutes later.

Depor got back in the game through Florin Andone and just before half time they missed a great chance to make it 2-2.

And before the first half was up, Madrid had gone up the other end to restore their two goal lead, Isco brilliant in the build up as Lucas Vazquez applied the finish.

James added his second goal after the break and Isco scored a deserved goal in the 77th minute to make it 5-1.

Joselu scored a late consolation for Depor but there was to be another goal for Madrid, Casemiro scoring for the second time in two games to keep Madrid on track for a first league title since 2012.
