Madrid were the better side and deserved their handsome win

The Portuguese was once again the difference maker for Zidane's side

Real Madrid look set for a third Champions League final in four years after beating Atletico 3-0 in their semifinal first leg on Tuesday thanks to a Cristiano Ronaldo treble. Here are the player ratings:

KEYLOR NAVAS (6) Unlikely he expected such an easy evening, with Atletico rarely testing him. A rare clean sheet for the Costa Rican.

CARVAJAL (6) Was regularly involved in attack in an impressive first half as he had an intense duel with Filipe Luis. However, got injured at the end of the opening period and was replaced by Nacho at the break.

VARANE (7) Zidane showed his confidence in the French defender by starting him after his injury and leaving Nacho on the bench. And he did well. Had a good effort on goal and was not troubled in defence.

SERGIO RAMOS (6) The Madrid captain led from the back and was good in the air. However, he was not overly tested by Atletico.

MARCELO (7) In a great moment of form and looked full of confidence. The match winner against Valencia was not decisive here, but he was a plus for his team once again.

CASEMIRO (6) Had to run and press a lot in midfielder and was able to do what was requested. Took a blow to the mouth in the first half, but it didn't affect his performance.

MODRIC (7) The Croatian couldn't show all his attacking qualities as he was wary of his defensive duties in midfield. Demonstrated he's a team player, though, and is so important to Madrid.

KROOS (7) A good showing from the German. Intense with his pressing and dominant in midfield. Also, once again, provided good deliveries from set plays.

ISCO (6) 'Zizou' went for Isco with Gareth Bale missing. Played well but wasn't as involved as would have liked to be. Had moments of quality, but lacked consistency in his play. Was booked and avoided a second yellow card before being replaced.

BENZEMA (5) Out of sorts and out of confidence and was whistled by the Madrid fans once again. Set up Ronaldo's second goal, but the debate will continue over his place in the team.

CRISTIANO RONALDO (8) The Portuguese forward is in good form. Scored a hat-trick here to follow up his hat-trick in the last round against Bayern Munich. All three goals were good finishes, with Oblak unable to stop them. Very effective, if not always involved in his team's play.

SUBSTITUTES:

NACHO (6) Replaced the injure Carvajal at half time after being left out by Zidane. Did well considering he's not usually a right-back.

MARCO ASENSIO (6) Caused problems with his running after replacing Isco.

LUCAS VÁZQUEZ (6) Came on for Benzema for the final 10 minutes and set up the third goal for Ronaldo.
