Marcelo scored in the 86th minute as Real Madrid once again scored a late winner to keep their title hopes alive, beating Valencia 2-1.

Barcelona won later on Saturday to re-take top spot, but Madrid, level on points with the Catalans, have a game in hand and will win their first league title since 2012 if they win their final four games.

Valencia had chances to take the lead at the Santiago Bernabeu but fell behind in the first half when Cristiano Ronaldo headed in Dani Carvajal's cross.

Ronaldo then had the chance to double Madrid's lead, but he was denied from the spot by penalty king Diego Alves after Luka Modric had been fouled.

Former Madrid player then scored a stunning free-kick to level the scores and it looked like Valencia would hold on for a point.

But Marcelo, possible his side's best player this season, scored a great winner to keep Zinedine Zidane's side on track for the title.
