Celta Vigo beat Real Madrid in the Copa as Zidane's side are beaten in consecutive matches

After an unbeaten run which stretched 40 games, Real Madrid were beaten for the second time in a week on Wednesday when they lost 2-1 to Celta Vigo in the Copa del Rey.

Iago Aspas and Jonny scored the Celta goals either side of a Marcelo Volley in a game which exploded to life just after the hour mark.

Madrid lost two games in the whole of 2016 and were on a club record unbeaten streak when they were stunned in stoppage time at Sevilla in La Liga on Sunday.

Having seen that run end, they've now been beaten for the second time in 2017, this time at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Cristiano Ronaldo started in a strong Madrid lineup. It was his first appearance in the cup for nearly two years, given he'd not played in the competition this season and Madrid were thrown out last year.

He couldn't make an impact in a first half which passed with little incident.

In fact, the first 60 minutes passed by almost unnoticed before the game really kicked off.

Bongonda was allowed far too much space by Danilo -- in for the injured Dani Carvajal -- his cross was cleared by Marcelo, but it fell to Aspas, who fired home his 13th goal in as many games.

Marcelo made ammends almost immediately, lashing home a volley from the edge of the box as Celta tried to defend a Madrid corner.

The home side were still celebrating, though, when their guests re-took the lead.

Lucas Vazquez gave away possession and before he knew it, Jonny was racing clean through the middle, the Madrid defence having parted like the Red Sea.

He showed a cool head to slot past Kiko Casilla, securing Celta on the night and ensuring they'll have two away goals to protect at Balaidos next week in the second leg of this quarter-final tie.
