The defender left Real for Besiktas when his contract expired

His father says Madrid didn't treat him well in his final year

Pepe's father has hit out at Real Madrid after his son left the club this summer. Anael, the Portuguese defender's dad, was speaking to Globo Esporte.

In relation to Pepe's final months at Madrid and his subsequent move to Besiktas, he said: "These clubs get players and wring every last drop from them. When they get tired and there's nothing more to exploit from them, the begin to treat them as they don't deserve to be treated. And the player, when they have character and notice that their career is passing and they have won everything, has to find a way to keep improving.

"When there's a year to go on contracts, clubs generally phone the players to renew. And Pepe was not called. After, when they offered him [a contract], they offered him the same that he was already earning. He said he didn't want to [renew]. He would fulfill what was left on his contract and leave."

Pepe had offers from PSG and Manchester United but decided to sign for Turkish side Besiktas in the summer.
