He will declare himself guilty and pay 800,000 euros to the tax agency to avoid a prison sentence

Spanish newspaper El Mundo reports that Manchester United coach Jose Mourinho has reached a deal with the Spanish prosecutor to close his case for tax evasion.

The Portuguese admits he has committed  two crimes related to not paying tax in Spain on his image rights when he was in charge of Real Madrid.

Mourinho will therefore avoid a 12-month prison sentence by paying a fine of 800,000 euros.

Mourinho, according to El Mundo, was investigated by the tax authorities in 2011 and 2012 for evading 3.3 million euros.

He regularised his situation by paying 4.4 million euros in 2015.

That should have closed the case, but the tax agency reopened their investigation after new information from Football Leaks. The prosecutor denounced Mourinho for leaving out image rights in his tax returns in 2011 and 2012. He ceded his image rights to the firm Koper Services in the Virgin Islands.
