Marcelo: There are no excuses and we are all to blame

The Los Blancos left-back was honest in his assessment of Madrid's performance

Marelo was very critical after Real Madrid lost 2-1 to Valencia at Mestalla. The defender did not bite his tongue and admitted that Madrid played poorly, especially at the beginning of the game.

In quotes made on the pitch after the game, Marcelo said: “We started really badly. There are no excuses and we are all to blame because we conceded two foolish goals.”

The Brazilian full-back, a key part of Madrid’s side, added: “We did everything we could to equalise at the end but it was too late. We have to learn from our mistakes. We're still the league leaders but we can't start like this again."

MISSED OPPORTUNITY

Marcelo admitted it was a “missed opportunity” to build on their lead at the top, though. They stay one ahead of Barcelona, although they still have a game in hand.

Giving Valencia credit, he also stated: “They are a great team. They've been through a bad phase but it's very difficult to play at this stadium and in front of these fans.”
