"I'm a much bigger Madridsta than Valdano," Michel told Onda Cero...

He quickly rectified his comments and said he will respect the competition

Manager Malaga Michel was asked by Onda Cero about his side's final game of the season against his former side Real Madrid, a match which could have consequences in the La Liga title race.

Michel was reminded that during the era of the Dream Team, Jorge Valdano, another former Madrid player, found himself in a similar situation with Tenerife -- and Barça ended up winning the league.

"I'm a much bigger Madridsta than Valdano," Michel said.

What does he mean? What was he insinuating? That maybe he would let Madrid win...? Perhaps having realised the repercussions his words could have and possibly given a nudge by someone with more sense, Michel quickly changed his tune.

"It's my Real Madrid, but it's also my Malaga," he added. "I have to respect the competition and try to win always. My players wouldn't understand me if that week I was looking the other way."

Still on that final fixture, Michel continued: "I would prefer [the league title] to be done before the last game. Those that make comments do so because they don't know me. I'm a professional. I hope that it's decided before the final day."
