Madrid's Karim Benzema will be put to the test during the Clasico

The French hitman has been having a rough time of it and will be in the spotlight in the upcoming Clasico

Karim Benzema takes on the Clasico with negative sensations. He is in his worst moment since he arrived at Real Madrid and the player has been the most whistled at the Santiago Bernabeu this season. He usually does well in the Clasico though and so this time around he has some extra motivation. He has scored eight goals in 24 Clasicos. The most recent was last season when he scored the goal to equalise, before Cristiano netted the winner.

The Frenchman physically has been below his best. He has scored just six goals and given two assists in 16 games. Against Sporting Lisbon in the UCL he netted a winner for his team. Zinedine Zidane is a big defender of his and has not lost confidence in his compatriot.

“Karim knows the Bernabeu will always ask more of him although he scores decisive goals,” said the coach.

This season Alvaro Morata has infringed on his turf but his injury has helped Benzema gain territory. The Clasico will be an examination of the Frenchman in the face of the doubts about him.
