Madrid might pay his release clause as they look to improve in goal

Kepa wants to clear up his future in January and get to the World Cup

According to Marca, Kepa Arrizabalaga is closer and closer to signing for Real Madrid. The Athletic Club goalkeeper has not renewed his contract and could force his way out in January. Madrid's intention was to sign him next summer but there have been negotiations about taking him in January. Kepa wants to clear up his future to guarantee his presence at the Russia World Cup.

His release fee clause, 20 million euros, is fairly set for a young goalkeeper with a lot of potential. From January 1 he can negotiate with other sides for a free move in the summer - but he doesn't want to do that and upset Athletic. He certainly doesn't want to spend the rest of the season on the bench.

That's what happened to Fernando Llorente, who agreed to sign for Juventus and spent the season left out before his move. Kepa wants to be in Julen Lopetegui's World Cup squad.

According to Marca the chances of signing him in January by paying the release clause is growing.
