James Rodriguez's Real Madrid stock is at an all-time low under Zidane
The Colombian is not getting a look in despite injuries to key players in Madrid's midfield
Real Madrid midfielder James Rodriguez has fallen to the back of Zinedine Zidane’s queue. The French coach has hardly used the Colombian and once again he wasn’t needed for the Champions League win against Sporting Club on Tuesday.
Despite injuries to Toni Kroos and Casemiro, James is not getting a chance. Instead, Zidane has opted for Isco and Mateo Kovacic alongside Luca Modric. There’s no debate: James is a backup player at the club and is experiencing his worst moments since signing in 2014.
Zidane only uses him in second-level matches, never in the important ones, which reveals the lack of confidence he has in him. The Colombian has been a substitute in the last five games and even missed out on the match in Warsaw against Legia due to a supposed injury.
He’s not even as un-selectable as he once was for his country, where they have began to question him. His lack of commitment and his questionable attitude are cited as problems. He believes he has enough talent to make the difference, but the reality is he’s not working hard enough for that to happen.
James is looking for an exit in January, although Zidane’s not keen on opening the door half way through the season, not least because of the club’s transfer ban.
