No opposition stepped forward to rival Perez's presidency

Perez has been in charge at Madrid for a total of 15 years

Florentino Perez will remain as Real Madrid president after the period for candidates to step forward closed on Sunday with no opposition presenting themselves.

The club announced an election on June 8, with 10 days the timeframe for people to confirm their candidacy. But 10 days passed without anyone stepping forward, meaning Perez will serve a fifth term as the club's president.

In total, Perez has spent 15 years as the club's chief split across two periods: 2000-2006 and 2009-2017. He will not serve another four-year term, taking him up to 2021.

Under his mandate, Madrid have won three Champions Leagues in the last four seasons (2014, 2016 and 2017). Los Blancos have won Europe's top prize 12 times, more than any other side.
