He claims that he would never try to evade tax

Cristiano Ronaldo, Real Madrid forward, appeared in court on Monday to testify against allegations he evaded nearly 15 million euros in tax. He left without speaking to the media but then issued a statement saying that he would "never hide anything" and had "not even the smallest intention of evading tax".

Ronaldo said: "The Spanish tax authorities know in detail about my income because I told them, I've never hidden anything or had the intention of evading taxes.

"I always do my declarations voluntarily because I think we all have to declare and pay taxes in line with our incomes. Those who know me know I ask my advisors to take their time and pay correctly because I don't want trouble."

Ronaldo said he maintained the same image righs structure when he moved to Real Madrid in 2010 that he had while at Manchester United, something "ratified" as legal by England's tax authorities.
