Real Madrid's 'MAL' trident is outshining the 'BBC' this season

Bale, Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo aren't their side's most effective attacking players

Real Madrid have a goal scoring trident, but maybe it’s not the one everyone imagines it to be. The BBC of Benzema, Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo have made a low key start to the new season. Knocking at the door is another trident, who, in games like the 7-1 win over Cultural Leon, are showing that they’re in better form.

The MAL, not the BBC, is made up of Morata, Asensio and Lucas Vazquez. Real Madrid’s other trident who have hooked the fans with their fine performances this season. They have scored more goals than the ‘Galactico’ trio. Despite playing less minutes, they’ve scored 13 to the BBC’s 12.

The backup trio have played a total of 1,839 minutes, while the BBC have played 2,395 minutes, which is 556 minutes more than their, in theory, reserves. Marco Asensio has six goals in 627 minutes, Morata has six in 698 minutes and Lucas Vazquez has one in 514 minutes. In total, 13 goals in 1,839 minutes. It’s worth remembering, too, that Asensio has scored in his first game in all four competitions (European Super Cup, La Liga, Champions League, Copa del Rey).

In contrast, Ronaldo has four goals in 768 minutes, Benzema also has four in 735 minutes - a better average than his Portuguese teammate - and Bale has four as well, albeit in 895 minutes. In total, the BBC have 12 goals in 2,395 minutes of play: one goal ever 199.5 minutes, while the MAL score one goal every 141.4 minutes. The numbers don’t lie.
