Villarreal want to take Juan Mata on loan from Manchester United

The arrival of Jose Mourinho at Manchester United has not been the best news for Spanish midfielder Juan Mata, who doesn’t have good memories of the coach from their time together at Chelsea.

Mata had to leave the London club less than one year after Mourinho took charge because he’d lost his place in the team, despite having become an idol among the club’s supporters. It now looks like he has not forgotten and will not continue at United.

Mourinho and Mata have now met at Old Trafford and the midfielder, as was expected, doesn’t have a big role to play under the Portuguese.

Even though Mourinho’s not a fan, Mata is still rated across Europe and there are many clubs interested in him. Until a few days ago, Ronald Koeman’s Everton looked like the most likely club to sign him, with Juventus and Inter Milan also linked.

But in recent hours, Villarreal have entered the race. According to various reports in England, they have contacted United regarding a loan deal. It’s an option Mata really likes, having suggested on various occasions he would like to return to the Spanish league one day.
