He has scored 16 goals in 30 appearances with Spurs second in the table

Tottenham coach Mauricio Pochettino says Dele Alli could be even better than Barcelona star Neymar.

The former Espanyol boss last week referred to striker Harry Kane as Spurs’ Lionel Messi and was asked who he would compare Alli to.

“Maybe Neymar,” he said in an interview with beIN. “No, I think it's a joke!

"I think Dele Alli has a completely different personality to Neymar. I think he's a special player, too. I don't know if he's in this level yet -- but the potential will be to be like him or better.

"I think Dele is an unbelievable player, great player, still very young and his potential is massive. We'll see what happens. He has the potential to improve a lot."

England international Alli, who turned 21 this week, is enjoying a fine season in the Premier League.

In 30 appearances he has scored 16 goals and on Thursday he was among the six nominees for PFA Young Player of the Year.

Team-mate Harry Kane, Burnley’s Michael Keane, Everton’s Romelu Lukaku, Sunderland’s Jordan Pickford and Manchester City’s Leroy Sane comlete the shortlist.

The six men nominated for the top prize, PFA Player of the Year, are: Kane, Lukaku, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Alexis Sanchez, Eden Hazard and N'Golo Kante.
