Mourinho's latest excuse after Manchester United lose to Watford

The Portuguese coach once again was critical of the refereeing decisions

"We can improve on our play, we can work on it, but the referee and the linesman's mistake is not under my control. I can't do anything to improve it." This was Jose Mourinho's reaction to another defeat, the second in a row in the Premier League, 3-1 at Watford.

The Manchester United manager blamed the officials as one of the main reasons for the loss. "I think no debate. I think no controversy. I think that is an obvious situation, like it was obvious last week against Man City but it’s something I cannot control and I can’t even be critical." One of the moments he was referring to was a foul on Anthony Martial which wasn't given in the build up to Watford's first goal.

However, Mourinho also admitted his team didn't play well: "In the first half for about 25 to 30 minutes we didn't play well and that is something that we can control. In the second half we were much better. We got the equaliser and after that we were the team. Gomes makes a phenomenal save and the lucky moments again are not something we can control. We cannot control the referee, we cannot control the lucky moments. The only thing we can control is our individual and collective mistakes."

This result leaves United six points behind Manchester City, who have five wins from five games, at this early stage of the season. Mourinho has a lot of work to do at Old Trafford in the coming weeks to keep the criticism away.
