The latest arrival is Tottenham right-back Kyle Walker

Mendy will follow for arounf 50 million euros from Monaco

Kyle Walker will be followed to Manchester City by Benjamin Mendy, confirming the regeneration of Pep Guardiola’s back five. The Catalan coach wanted to sign four full-backs this summer as the build the most expensive defence in the world.

Four of the back five will have arrived since Guardiola was appointed. The first was John Stones, who joined last summer from Everton for 55 million euros.

The other three have arrived — well, one is yet to be confirmed — this summer. Goalkeeper Emerson comes from Benfica (40 million euros), Walker from Tottenham (55 million euros) and Mendy will join from Monaco for around 50 million euros.

To make the defence the most expensive, add in Nicolas Otamnedi to complete the back five. The Argentine was signed from Valencia for 40 million euros. That takes the total of City’s back line to close to 240 million euros.

With all that in mind, Guardiola will hope his side don’t leak too many goals this season.
