Both players are set for a spell on the sidelines after the incidents which marred Saturday's draw

Manchester United star Zlatan Ibrahimovic is set for a three-game ban after the FA charged him for elbowing Bournemouth's Tyrone Mings on Saturday.

Mings has also been charged -- and may even be hit with a longer suspension -- for stamping on the Swedish striker's head moments before.

Ibrahimovic is likely to miss the FA Cup clash with Chelsea and league games against Middlesbrough and West Brom.

"Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Tyrone Mings have both been charged with alleged violent conduct following the Manchester United versus AFC Bournemouth game on Saturday," the FA confirmed in a statement.

"The players were involved in two separate incidents in or around the 44th minute which were not seen by the match officials at the time but caught on video.

"Furthermore, The FA has submitted a claim that the standard punishment that would otherwise apply for the misconduct committed by the Bournemouth defender is ‘clearly insufficient.’"

Both players denied either of their actions were deliberate.

Ibrahimovic said that defender Mings “jumped into his elbow” moments after the Bournemouth man's studs had raked down his head.

Neither incident was picked up by the referee of his assistants, which is why the FA are allowed to take retrospective action.
