Guardiola and Mourinho lose 2.2 million euros thanks to Brexit

The devaluation of the pound sterling, that fell during Friday to levels of 30 years ago, following the British referendum, will have repercussions on the contracts of footballers and coaches in the Premier League.

A provisional study shows that, for example, Pep Guardiola would lose almost 1.5 million euros at the moment, while Jose Mourinho would lose 750,000 euros.

Premier League contracts are signed in British currency and are paid weekly. The depreciation of the pound sterling would therefore have immediate effects on the main stars of the English league.

Guardiola's contract, as revealed by the German press, is worth 25 million euros per year. If the depreciation of the pound (which reached 6% in the hours following the referendum) were to maintain stability during the whole season, the Catalan manager's losses would be 1.5 million euros.

The Manchester United coach Mourinho meanwhile, agreed a salary of 10 million pounds per year (12.5 million euros). On Friday the new value of the pound sterling led to 750,000 euros being wiped off that amount.

The consequences of Brexit is reaching the pockets of the stars of the Premier League, and they will not like it.
