Ronaldo Koemans was sacked after a run of poor results

Sam Allardyce and Marco Silva are the other two options

Everton owner Farhad Moshiri is looking for a new manager and, according to Sky Sports, has made Diego Simeone his top target.

After firing Ronald Koeman, David Unsworth has been in charge of Everton on an interim basis, losing his first three games before overseeing a dramatic win over Watford at the weekend.

Moshiri has a number of candidates, formed by the out of work Sam Allardyce, Watford coach Marco Silva and, surprisingly, Atletico's Diego Simeone.

However, it's unlikely the Argentine will leave mid-season, given he has extended his contract with the La Liga side until 2020.

Moshiri is ready to make a big investment in order to make Everton one of the Premier League's top teams and wants Simeone to lead his new project.

Meanwhile, Allardyce's representatives have met with Everton to talk about the possibility of the former England coach taking over at Goodison Park until the end of the season.
