The English club have named their price after rejecting a bid of €45 million plus €10 million in add-ons from Atleti

Negotiations are progressing but Chelsea are adamant the player must apologise for his behaviour first

Chelsea and Atlético Madrid have taken a step forward in their negotiations over Diego Costa. The Madrid club made the first move last week, making a €45 million bid for the Spain forward with €10 million dependent of a series of targets being met. However, The Daily Mail has reported that Chelsea have said €65 million is the opening price for any negotiations.

If negotiations do progress, there are other factors that would have to be taken into account. According to AS, Chelsea will not let Diego Costa leave unless he apologises for some of his more controversial statements and for the behaviour he has shown at times with the club.

Apologising is a non-negotiable condition for the English club who have been angered by the player’s attitude and criticism that the player has directed at them since Antonio Conte informed the player by text that he was not part of his plans for this season.
