Comment: Grau and Gratacos' comments were unncecessary and could easily have been avoided

Why don't they keep quiet? It would be better for Barcelona if they did. Because every time they speak, they put their feet in their mouth. Or what is worse, they make Messi angry. And the dressing room. If on Wednesday it was the club's CEO, Oscar Grau, who caused problems with his "common sense" comment in relation to Messi's contract renewal, on Friday it was Pere Gratacos, the club's representative at the Copa del Rey draw, who put more wood on the fire when he said that "Messi would not be as good without Iniesta and Neymar."

I know that Gratacos didn't intend to create any more contrroversy with his comments. I know that it was Gratacos who recommended Frank Rijkaard gave a teenage Messi his debut. I know that Gratacos loves Barça and admires Leo above all else. But Gratacos messed up when he fell into the trap laid out by the journalist. It would have been easy to respond with "this matter is not to do with me" or, better still, with "Messi is the best player in the world and I am convinced he will continue at Barça." It's not that difficult, is it?

Messi's contract renewal is so IMPORTANT (yes, in capital letters) for Barcelona's future that any comment on it could disturb the negotiations. It's better if no-one speaks. It's better if no-one offers their opinion. Better that everyone maintains their silence and waits for president Josep Maria Bartomeu to sit down with Leo and his father and reach an agreement. Because any phrase can be mis-interpreted. And even more so if you commit errors as big as the ones made by Grau and Gratacos.
