Disadvantage. Barcelona came out to dominate the game from the first minute. In fact, Lionel Messi could have opened the scoring inside the first minute after a great individual move. But two losses of the ball (Andres Iniesta and Gerard Pique) allowed two Antoine Griezmann chances and broke the game's balance. The problems in defence in front of the two centre-backs weighed heavily on Barcelona in the first 45 minutes. Correa and Griezmann had sounded warnings when Saul Niguez eventually scored the first goal for Atletico. Iniesta, who was the best player in the first half, tried a direct pass on two or three occasions.

ANOTHER GAME

Ernesto Valverde once again was successful in rectifying the situation after the first 45 minutes. The team improved, was more intense and less predictable. They were able to get at Atletico and Barcelona ended up dominating their hosts and deserving to win the three points. Barcelona were much closer to the win than Atletico, with 16 chances, eight of them on target and Messi thumping a free-kick against the woodwork.

My way of seeing it is that the key to the game was the involvement of the two coaches, with the changes proving decisive. The changes made by Diego Simeone, the first two very defensive, ended up benefitting Barça. The opposite can be said for Valverde. The coach was proved right with his decision to bring on Sergi Roberto -- he made the goal which earned a point -- and Gerard Deulofeu caused problems on the right.
