Yesterday Carles Capdevila left us, a model in life and a reference point for journalism. But his legacy stays, which are his ideas. I had the privilege to have spoken various times with him, about the alleged objectivity of the press. He broke the idea that subjectivity and quality are incompatible. Carlos said the object of a medium was not to be neutral, something which is impossible, but to be honest, not to lie to your audience. And that is just what we have always done here. SPORT is a Barcelona newspaper and its vision of the world is strictly Cule. We do not hide from that. That doesn’t mean we simply do fan journalism, as would be easy to say, but sincere journalism, which is very different.

Despite our subjectivity, as our readers know, that does not stop a critical spirit, which is always necessary. We are Barca fans, but because of that sometimes we have to inspect them to help to be better. It hurts and sometimes people do not understand. It’s an inspection we have started to apply to ourselves with our section ‘Mea Culpa’. In the same way, today is the best day to be honest and direct. Sport wants Juventus to win, basically because it’s good for Barcelona. A Real Madrid triumph would large the distance between them and Barcelona and add pressure on the new Ernesto Valverde project. The times where Madrid and Barcelona players had to lie and say they wanted their rivals to win are further and further away, and that is good for everyone. So today, let’s not fool ourselves. For once, don’t let the best team win, let the Old Lady win. Carles, wherever you are, I am sure you will agree: Forza Juve!
