That Messi is the best player in the game, not just for Barcelona, is something which happens 90 percent of the time. That Messi is the genius in finals which Barcelona win happens 95 percent of the time. But that Messi is the best midfielder, the best right winger and the best centre forward in the same game, let alone a final, is something which we had still not enjoyed. 

That Leo is capable of continuing to surprise, invent and create seems impossible, but it's not.  The Copa del Rey was decided by his genius as he once again decided to show his is the best player in the world as the Ballon d'Or this year is likely be given away behind his back. Therefore, he wore a shirt with various numbers and from every area of the pitch created pure art with the ball. A total exhibition. Brutal. What he wanted to happen, happened.

He took the team on his back when the doubts began to appear. Let's not kid ourselves: it was not an easy victory. Alaves turned up and were arguably on top for the 30 minutes and could have taken the lead, denied by the post. They then pegged Barca back when they took the lead through a golazo from Theo Hernandez. 

So the genius had to come out to put things back in place. First, an exquisite goal with a shot which flew in from the edge of the area. Then, great vision to play in Andre Gomes, who squared for Neymar's goal. And finally a stunning slalom through the Alaves defence topped with a fine pass for Alcacer. Incredible. Copa del Rey champions. Luis Enrique can leave happy. And all thanks to Messi.
