The former Sevilla coach will be paid off to leave his role with the AFA

Jorge Sampaoli will leave his role as Argentina coach on Monday when the five-year deal which he originally signed is rescinded.

It's taken a while but what everyone expected to happen following Argentina's failure at the Wrold Cup is now going to happen.

Sampaoil will be paid 1.6 million dollars to leave his role, a figure much less than the AFA should pay, even if they wait until the Copa America next year.

His cycle in charge of the Albiceleste only lasted 13 months. The ex-Sevilla coach took over on June 1, 2017, with four games to go in qualifying for the World Cup.

He managed to book their trip to Russia, thanks to Lionel Messi's hat-trick in their final game against Ecuador.

In total, Sampaoil oversaw 15 games, winning seven, drawing four and losing four. The poor performances in Russia proved his undoing, though.

Argentina scraped through their group, drawing with Iceland, losing to Croatia and then beating Nigeria with a late goal from Rojo.

However, they were eliminated in the last 16, losing 4-3 to France, who will take part in Sunday's final against Croatia.
